History of the Triangle d'or district

Prestigious district of Bordeaux long consisted only of convents, the Triangle d'or as we know it today was formed at the end of the 18th century around the church Notre-Dame. The triangle d'or is composed of sublime places: Place des Grands Hommes in the center, Place Gambetta, Place de Tourny and Place de la Comedie at its peaks. The architect Chalifour is responsible for the urban development of the neighborhood after the Revolution: he is responsible for the luxurious buildings and the magnificent mansions that surround remarkable monuments such as the Grand Theater, as well as the structure on which were constructed the halls of the 19th place of Great Men.

The essentials of the Triangle d'or

The Triangle d'or is home to an extraordinary concentration of beautiful architecture, historical monuments and works of art. Place de la Comédie, the Grand Théâtre which houses the Opéra National de Bordeaux is the work of architect Victor Louis. Commissioned by Marshal Richelieu, it will be inaugurated in 1780. Its neoclassical facade is decorated with 12 statues representing muses and goddesses. Place des Grands Hommes, at the junction of streets bearing the names of the Enlightenment philosophers, the covered market has been an institution since the beginning of the 19th century. Formerly known as Saint-Dominique, the Notre-Dame-de-Bordeaux church is another must-see in the district, which boasts a sublime baroque style. Its exceptional acoustics is worth it to host many concerts. Place Tourny, emblematic of Bordeaux, is adorned with a monumental statue of the steward. The aisles of Tourny connect Place Tourny to Place de la Comédie: lined with 18th and 19th buildings on the odd side, they welcome the Christmas market every year. The Triangle d'or is home to a very large number of mansions with architecture absolutely remarkable, to discover at the option of walks or shopping in department stores, jewelry and luxury shops.
