Night Marathon in Bordeaux

Before even being a formidable competition, the Bordeaux Métropole marathon is a celebration. For the past five years, this fall event has attracted almost 20,000 runners from five continents and a crowd of spectators ready to support the athletes and enjoy the beauties of the city. Original by its dynamics, its spirit of innovation and an exceptional built and wine heritage, Bordeaux is also in the organization of its marathon since it is run at night! But that, if you have invested in real estate in Bordeaux and you live there, you already know them.

As usual, the start of the 2019 edition will take place at 8 p.m. on the Place du Palais de la Bourse, facing the typical 18th century pediments and mascarons lit by the setting sun. Between monuments adorned with lights and prestigious vineyards, participants will complete these 42km by returning to Place de la Bourse to end the evening in a magical and festive atmosphere.

The other originality of this event is to offer participants the possibility of choosing their race… Marathon, half-marathon (21km) and even relay at 2,3 or 4. It is also the only race in France which allows Accomplished marathon runners to qualify for the next Abbott World Marathon Majors World Championship to be held in 2021.

Course of the Bordeaux marathon 2019

In 42km, the route offers an incredible journey between the monuments and emblematic places of the Bordeaux city.

From the sculpted facades of the Palais de la Bourse, we reach the illuminated Chaban-Delmas Bridge whose pylons change from blue to green depending on the tide. Then we are immersed in the scents of the Angelic Park along the Garonne and soon crossing the vaults of the Pont de Pierre initiated by Napoleon 1st. At km7, Place Pey-Berland reveals the Saint-André cathedral. A few streets lead us to Places Tourny and Gambetta from where we reach Pessac then Mérignac. From the 17th km, the runners set foot on the gravel land of the ambitious Château Luchey Halde estate and Château Picque Caillou in the cradle of the Haut-Brion appellation. Passing through Pessac and Talence, the marathon runners return to the Chartrons district, with the long spiers of the Saint-Louis church and the Cours du Médoc, a historic trading center in Bordeaux. At the 40th kilometer, they cross the Place de la Comédie and its large illuminated theater to end their journey admiring the medieval Porte Cailhau which despite its five centuries still displays the same slender silhouette. Finally, return to Place de la Bourse to savor this feat while partying.
